Just a few words to give some news about the project. So what happens last months !

Instead of following the past months ryhtm of one release each months, I choose to invest time and energy in background tasks to significantly improve quality of Cooperation-iws software. Now the development is on the way to 0.9 release. The new features that will be in this release are:

The switch to Debian Lenny platform for the Cooperation-iws servers release.

The support of SSL connection.

The change of Live architecture, Cooperation-iws servers will now have a persistent home directory.

New professional feature for Cooperation-iws clients like encryption and antivirus tools.

A new wiki with documentation is on the way also.

New releases with anonymous and content filtering proxy, web hosting releases.

Professional class features for companies and associations.

Internet a été pensé comme un lieu de coopération, il est devenu un lieu de confrontation.

Cooperation-iws est un projet de serveur intranet pour les familles, pour les amis, pour les collègues.

C’ est un outil d’aggrégation d’information. Internet privatif, que l’on emmène avec soi et que l’on utilise où bon nous semble.

Cooperation-iws est nomade.

Cooperation-iws est le fruit du travail de nombreuses personnes, car la pluralité fait notre richesse et notre force.

Ce travail fut bénévole ou rémunéré, mais la propriété a été volontairement partagée.

Cooperation-iws est Open Source.

Bien immatériel et infiniment duplicable, culture commune, qui tisse le lien entre les hommes et les générations.

For Christmas 2008, I am pleased to announce the availability of Cooperation-iws 0.7.0. This release contains the following new features:

• Multilingual management for all the applications that have international community, Cooperation-iws web applications are now available in several languages including Europe, America, Africa, Middle East and Asia languages.
• New modules: Dotproject, project management software, Elgg, social networking platform,
• Upgrade of all the applications to latest available release,
• Upgrade of the operating system to Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (8.10),
• New groupware release based on Kolab,
• New portal design,
• New release dedicated to Netbook users (Turn your Netbook into Cooperation-iws Server !),

Bugfixes has been made :

• Fix Liveusb installer bugs, add USB hard disk support,
• Fix various web applications bugs.

For this release, you probably have noticed that there is a new domain name:

www.cooperation-iws.eu

There is also a new download mirror, that will have a better bit rate.

0.7.0 release extended presentation slides of Cooperation-iws are available for promotion or curiosity. Enjoy this release, the next shall come at the beginning of february.

I am pleased to announce the availability of Cooperation-iws Clients for demonstration purpose. For the moment two flavours are available:

• Webconverger debian derivative client: a light client with only a browser based user interface, aimed for publics terminals or low end terminals.
• Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex client: a fully multimedia, office, communications capable client.

These two flavours are available in the download area.

Olivier Avenel is French and he lives in the North-West  from France. After a first experience in logistics support in industry, he decided to launch the Cooperation-iws project in march 2008, thinking that open source could significantly improve the way people interacts with each other, the way people cooperates.

First there is not only two demo flavours of Cooperation-iws but Sixteen ! One for each specific purpose. These releases are divided in two groups:

1. The standalone releases, that are self sufficient releases, one for each kind of activity (Personal, Content Management System, Elearning, Data Management, Development)
2. The intranet system releases. These releases include a full set of iso images to build an intranet from scratch: gateway, PBX, administration server, groupware and mail server, Communications server, eLearning, development, data management and Content mangement system. This set of releases dedicate software to separate servers so that load carrying could be efficiently made.

Second, new features have appeared like:

1. A new portal main page for the server based either on Wordpress, or on Joomla.
2. Mail servers with antivirus and spam checking, groupware software.
3. Sphider indexing and search engine.
4. Web 2.0 applications, rss agregator, social networking platform.
5. Video Conferencing system with open meetings, IRC server as well for chating.
6. Monitoring solutions for Intranet system based on Zabbix and Syslog-ng.
7. PBX release for audio and video communications inside the intranet
8. Web logs statistics and analysis tools

Now Cooperation-iws is at a key point of its development, either it become professional either it hang there. So if you feel that Cooperation-iws is usefull for you do not hesitate to send email or comments on the Web to promote it.

Cooperation-iws team strongly believe in the virtue of open source model, and will keep contact with open source community. But now Cooperation-iws is looking for a business model to continue invest time in the project development.

• The new support of Debian Operating System from the project Debian Live: http://debian-live.alioth.debian.org/. This interesting project is aimed at creating a Debian Live CD from scratch with Live-helper scripts while offering possibility to choose the Desktop (Xfce, Kde, Gnome), the distribution (Lenny, Sid, Etch) and more generally the packages to be installed. For Cooperation-iws Live scripts, only a little part of Live-helper is used and offers for the moment, the possibility to make Gnome, Xfce bare or Desktop (with all the apps) iso, as well as a minimal iso without X window environment (only text mode). The Debian live project is still in beta phase, so all features available are not there.
• The addition of new modules like Open-Xchange groupware module, http://www.open-xchange.com, Clamav Antivirus module and Clamav functionalities for mail server, as well as Roundcube webmail module.
• New support of international mirrors for downloading Operating System related packages (Ubuntu and Debian).
• The support to download web applications files from a local mirror.
• Upgrade of Cooperation-iws web interface, with a new functionnality of search engine and crawler for indexing all the server, based on Sphider:  http://www.sphider.eu/

Everything is already here in the project Subversion repository, and everything could be improved by your contributions and remarks, so do not hesitate to test it before the 0.5.2 release.
